A seemingly ordinary village hides dozens of mysterious places waiting to be discovered - hidden waterfalls, rock regiments, viewpoints, and trails.
As the residents say (those with long experience), this neighborhood will never get bored.
If you are tired of squeezing through the beaten traces full of tourists, then for sure you will find some peace in Norddal. The mountains can be almost only for you. In such circumstances, it is not difficult to encounter wild animals such as eagles and deers. At the right time of year, you can spot porpoises and pilot whales from the shore of the fjord.
The routes surrounding Norddal are well marked and have varying degrees of difficulty. You can take a walk to the lake with your little one on your back, try a camping trip with friends on a beautiful UNESCO-listed farm, or take a challenging route with an amazing view.
Tolleknivsegga – a bit of a long but pleasant hike with a start point on Herdalsvatnet.
Straight from the village, there is a medium-difficulty trail to the top of Daurmålsfjellet. From the top, there is an amazing view of the village, the fjord, and the surrounding peaks.
If you don’t feel like taking a strenuous trip from Norddal, you can reach the lake Storvatnet on light and scenic route in the valley. In spring, you will be accompanied by sheep and social cows for the first part of the tour.
The top of Skorene – for experienced hikers who knows how to deal with mountain surprises. You can only get there with a local guide.
The highest peak in the area is Torvløysa, it is 1851m high and you can start your trip from the edge of the fjord. This is the peak for more demanding hikers, which gives great satisfaction. The route goes through an old farm and climbs towards the sky through the rocky fields. The trip takes about 9 hours, so it is better to prepare properly. Sometimes when the sun is shining in the village, you may find snow on the top. The 1851 Oppned sky race to the top of Torvløysa is organized once a year by the Norddal Sports Club. Competitors prepare for the race all year round to prove themselves in July, competing against the international contestants.
Rellingsetra is an old mountain farm where you can find grazing cows and sheep in summer, surrounded by mountains, full of greenery and delicious berries with old farm cabins scattered around. It is a great place to relax or to start hiking higher to Daurmålsfjellet, Torvløysa, or Storvatnet.
