The Geiranger-Herdalen protected area is a real gem of the region. It is taken under special protection, therefore it will survive as long as possible, and will be available to sightseeing also for future generations.
Geiranger-Herdalen is a characteristic landscape created of fjords and mountains with a varied life of plants and animals. Fjordgardane, the farm environment, and cultural heritage show the interplay between man and nature through the millennium.

In Herdalen you can go to a large traditional farm which is still in use. The cultural and natural landscape is varied by rich species diversity, red list species, and rare habitat types.
The nature reserve Hyskjet is a special forest where the rare butterfly called Mnemosyne lives.
