A seemingly ordinary village hides dozens of mysterious places waiting to be discovered - hidden waterfalls, rock regiments, viewpoints, and trails.
As the residents say (those with long experience), this neighborhood will never get bored.
Petrines Gjestgiveri is a small guest house in the village of Norddal in Fjord Municipality. Petrines today has 10 rooms, a cafe and a restaurant.
But what is the origin of this beautiful building?
Helene Petrine Hvidt
Helene Petrine was born in 1824 and was the youngest of the two daughters of pastor Christian Fredrik Hvidt. Petrine was never married, but took over four farms on Rellingsida when her father died in 1869. In the 1865 census, Petrine is mentioned as “managing the Af household”, and the story tells of an adult lady whom the other women in the village longed for when they met at Buddha.
Storgarden at Relling
Petrine offered the farm “oppunder Hauen”. In the census from 1865, among other things, 19 cattle, 28 sheep, 19 goats and a staff of seven were registered. It seems that Petrine was responsible for a large farm. Then she wasn’t too shabby either, the unmarried priest’s daughter. It is said that once the bridge over the river had gone awry, she walked across the river on stilts! The Garden is the first thing you see when you enter the village.
An important will
In a report from the Herredstyret in Norddal, 13 May 1913, case 15, we find the following (…) it appears that she has bequeathed a large part of her funds to the Herred of Norddal since Depositum (…) Hinting for what purpose they should preferably be used for the prevention of frost damage on Skuset and Løvold with several farms or also for the construction of a retirement home for the poor.
Completion of the old home
March 4, 1916 The Men’s Council dealt with case 3b: Completion of the old home: It was decided to recommend to the Building Committee (…) that the House be repaired (…). The board is authorized to make the necessary purchases of various things (…) and furthermore to assume the necessary management and management.
From nursing home via pub to guest house
In 1987, the nursing home was closed and the elderly moved into run-of-the-mill new care homes by the fjord. The house stood empty for a couple of years, but in 1992 the building was sold to a group of far-sighted villagers who spent a few years converting a heavy-duty nursing home into a modern pub, and then pleasant rooms for accommodation.
Ownership with heart
Petrines was owned and run by most of the entire village, but was sold to Christine Olsvik and Ole Stavdal Vikenes at Christmas time 2019. After a winter of renovation and refurbishment of both rooms, restaurant and café, Petrines opened in a new look in June 2020.
