Blokktrykk

Meet the old traditional technique of decorating fabrics with block printing.

Ingvild Hansen Nystad is a local artist who creates remarkable masterpieces on tanned sheepskins.
Ingvild and her family raise sheep on an ecological farm, which makes it possible to obtain skins. It is a warm souvenir and a beautiful interior decoration, especially useful on cold days. On the inside of the skin, Ingvild applies patterns using the old traditional block printing method. She had this skill passed down through the generations. The first blocks were hand-carved by her ancestor. These unusual wooden blocks have survived to this day. Ingvild still uses them to create patterns, maintaining a long tradition. You will find out more about this unique method of decorating leather and textiles by watching the video below. Of course, it is possible for Ingvild to create such a print on an individual order. That will be a souvenir you won’t find anywhere else in Norway.
